CLASS - TRadition - Philanthropy

The Krewe of Alegria was established in March 1986 (by Dianne Henry and Dyann “Rocky” Valdez) as Tampa Bay’s first all-female Gasparilla krewe. Later the Krewe of Alegria was incorporated in 2004 under the umbrella Alegria Group, Inc.  Our founding members paved the way forward and assisted in the formation of other all-female krewes.

Today we remain an all-female krewe of professional women of diverse ethnicities and backgrounds. Alegria members participate in charitable functions, various parades, festivals, and other social and civic functions taking place in and around Tampa Bay. We serve as ambassadors of goodwill through our volunteer service.

Alegria means “joy” in Spanish and our theme and costuming is Lady Pirates. Our unique costumes are jewel-toned bodices, with white billowy sleeves, black leggings and boots, a cavalier hat, and an optional black cape. We wish to express our love and exuberance for our community through our colorful representation.

Our “Alegria is Kickin’ for Kids” shoe campaign is a primary vehicle for giving back to our community through the gift of new athletic style school shoes to disadvantaged children throughout the Tampa Bay area.

Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to grow a base of support among the membership of The Krewe of Alegria to help with various civic causes, to add fund-raising and program activities to accomplishments, and to always support and give to Tampa Bay Area’s children.

The general purpose of the Krewe of Alegria shall be to participate in charitable functions, various parades, festivals, and other social and civic functions taking place in and around the Tampa Bay area, and to act as ambassadors of good will through entertainment and volunteer service.
