Krewe of Alegria was established in 1986 as Tampa Bay's first all-female Gasparilla Krewe. Our float – a true Pirate Ship – and our jewel-toned costumes reflect the famous pirate theme and the rich maritime tradition of our city. Alegria is well-known for its long-standing tradition of community service and volunteerism. Alegria members participate in charitable functions, various parades, festivals, and other social and civic functions in and around Tampa Bay. We serve as ambassadors of goodwill through our volunteer service. Our service project – Alegria is Kickin’ For Kids – collects and donates new high-quality athletic shoes and other goods and services to children in need throughout the Tampa Bay area. Our famous annual event – Alegria's Ugly Sweater Social - is the primary fundraiser for our community outreach efforts.
